The emerging popularity of Java based development is chronicled here. Distributed computing in this environment is described by George Schussel, chairman and CEO of Digital Consulting Inc. He describes the emerging architecture as “browser/server computing.” The connecting middleware could comprise Corba or DCOM object technology. In fact, more and more tools vendors are citing Java-enabled Corba in their pitches. Such concepts had been gaining currency in client/server circles in recent years. Thus, with object middleware connecting tiers, the browser/server design crew may be taking up where the client/server crew left off.
